Pesticides: More Harm Than Good?

Pesticides are chemical agents sprayed directly on to crops in order to repel rodents, insects and even invasive weeds. Although pesticides protect crops, they can also harm humans after prolonged exposure. The World Health Organization estimates that three million cases of pesticide poisoning are reported per year and that approximately 7 percent of cases lead to death.  (more…)

Chipotle illness outbreak strikes again

The latest Chipotle food-borne illness outbreak is the biggest outbreak yet by far in history. Nearly 700 people claimed they got sick at Powell, Ohio between the dates of July 26 and July 30. The symptoms included nausea, diarrhea, and fever. (more…)

Recall on blood pressure medication due to potential link to cancer

The US Food and Drug Administration has recalled over 55 different medications that contain a substance that is connected to cancer. Valsartan, is the name of the medication that is prescribed to patients with blood pressure problems and heart issues. In late July, the FDA announced that some of the Valsartan medications may have been contaminated with a material linked to cancer. (more…)

Within the nation including Lancaster County, summer is a season where there is an ongoing and increased need for regular, constant blood donation. Due to donors traveling and going on vacation, blood inventory levels are usually reduced in the summer time. Furthermore, there is an increased need for O negative and O positive blood types due to the increased traumas within Lancaster County. (more…)

PA Medical Marijuana may be an option for your medical condition

On April 17th 2016, Pennsylvania’s governor, Tom Wolf, legalized medical marijuana. On February 15th, 2018 the first of Pennsylvania’s dispensaries opened to the public. As of August 9th, 2018, twenty-seven companies were given licenses to open medical marijuana dispensaries. Lancaster is home to its very own dispensary run by “Cure Pennsylvania” on Fruitville Pike.
