ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Lancaster County rests at the intersection of a series of environmental factors that are influencing the health of our residents. Our heritage and our location are contributors to negative environmental influences that have the potential to increase developmental disabilities, asthma and other chronic diseases. With proper action and creative prevention strategies the County may be able to prevent or reduced the negative impacts on our community’s health as a result of the environment.
The Environmental Task Force began its journey examining the impact of lead and potential lead poisoning in the Lancaster Community particularly related to children in the County.
Lead
- Increase awareness of the impact lead exposure has upon the health of Lancaster residents including the identification of regions within the county most greatly impacted by the presence of lead and populations most adversely affected by lead exposure.
- Increase the rate of lead toxicity screenings among children in Lancaster County.
- Increase access, support and resources available to assist with lead abatement in homes and business throughout Lancaster County.
Air Quality
- Increase awareness of the impact of poor air quality upon the health of Lancaster residents.
- Educate members of the community of air quality measures (ozone, pollen levels, etc.), risks to individual health and precautions that can and should be taken during days of poorer air quality.
- Identify potential strategies individuals, business and the community may implement to improve air quality and limit the impact of poorer air quality on the health of the Lancaster Community.
